Tuscaloosa Adolescent Support Services (TASS)
Address:
Tuscaloosa, AL 354056001 12th Avenue East Driving Directions Tuscaloosa Adolescent Support Services (TASS) is an evening reporting center that offers an alternative for youth who would otherwise be committed to the Alabama Department of Youth Services (ADYS) or detained in the Tuscaloosa Juvenile Detention Center (TJDC). TASS operates Monday through Friday and can accommodate up to 30 participants, male or female, between the ages of 13 and 18.
TASS uses a highly structured format that engages youth in tutoring or GED instruction to address their academic needs, therapeutic recreational programming, life-development workshops, and substance abuse group therapy. Evidence-based and gender-specific curricula are used to address the emotional, social, health and educational needs of the clients. In addition to his or her counselor, each participant is also supervised by a community mentor. Community mentors offer support and motivation and help with problem-solving. Mentors also offer long-term support to help guide youths back to their home community in a positive way. Click here for a printable information sheet on the TASS program.
